Pike’s Brief Kneeee Mail Peek – 4/5/14
Rick Rud – my lifetime friend who had a bicycle accident several weeks ago (I referred to him in Pike’s Kneeee Mail Peek earlier this week) –
passed away on Friday. We are glad he’s with the Lord, the pain & suffering is done, but for sure will miss him.
Thanks for your prayers for him since the accident, though I realize most of you didn’t know him or his family personally.

My comments below were sent to people who were from the former Grace Ev Free Church in Chicago who knew Rick (now the church is called The Brook).
It truly is a time for mixed emotions.
Humanly we shall miss him for sure. I’m so glad for the times together with him at Grace Ev Free Church, his kindness to drive me home to the suburbs before I could drive – which allowed me to participate in activities I would’ve missed without a ride.
The times at church playing basketball, ping pong, and participating in many worship services together, plus times at the parsonage – playing pool (if I remember correctly) in his basement, including lots of laughter along the way!
Then the many trips to locations too many to include here – some were Bears playoff games at Soldier Field, Turkey Run State Park, ICI (Inner City Impact) Camp & other ICI events, filming movies with Terry & Jon Spann…, IN Dunes, U of IL, etc, etc.
If I could describe Rick with one word, it would be ‘kind’. His life (to me) demonstrated what a ‘kind’ person does, what ‘kindness’ really is (I Corinithans 13 – “…love is kind…”; Galatians 5:22-23 – “…the fruit of the Spirit is…kindness…”
How glad we are that he knew the Lord Jesus as his Savior, and served Him as Lord – thus from what the Bible says – though he is absent from the body, he is present with the Lord (II Corinthians 5:8) – and for Rick to live was Christ – and to die is gain (Philippians 1:21).
His dad (Pastor Rud) also had a huge influence on my life –
– God used one of his sermons on heaven and hell for me to realize my need to ask Christ to forgive my sins and receive His gift of eternal life at age 6 or 7.
– God used his Bible Instruction Class when I was in 8th grade to help ground me in the basics of the faith, and gave me life verses of Romans 12:1-2 – which I used years later for a high school weekend retreat, and also put together a series of lessons/sermons used in multiple locations.
Thanks Lord for the memories of special friend and brother in Christ – Rick Rud.
Also thanks as well to all who receive this email – for the memories we shared via Grace Ev Free Church – Chicago. Glad our prayers for each other can still impact our lives!
Grace n peace,
:)Dave
